Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is on the lookout for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Recreation Supervisor for the Lifelong Recreation workgroup. Lifelong Recreation is a cornerstone of our community-focused initiatives, dedicated to ensuring access to recreational, educational, and wellness opportunities for adults aged 60 and above. 

As a Recreation Supervisor, you'll play a pivotal role within the Recreation Services Division, overseeing the Lifelong Recreation programs. You'll be instrumental in ensuring the continued support of recreational activities for our aging community members. From community centers to sports, aquatics, arts, culture, and special events programs, you'll lead the development and delivery of a diverse array of programs tailored to meet the varied interests and needs of our community.

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for recreational, enrichment, and leisure activities.
  • Manage fiscal budgets, ensuring effective expenditure and revenue management.
  • Foster relationships with diverse communities, ensuring the development and delivery of culturally responsive programs and services.
  • Collaborate with non-profit organizations, school officials, and community groups to enhance program offerings.
  • Promote workplace diversity and positive employee relations by supervising a diverse workforce and working environment.
  • Engage in proactive communication, marketing, and outreach efforts to individuals, groups, organizations, and partners.
  • Maintain close contact with non-profit organizations; school officials; community groups; and others regarding programs and services. 

required qualifications:

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

  1. Experience applying effective supervision to provide leadership to a diverse staff.
  2. Experience applying procedures, standards, practices, and trends in the field of recreation, focusing on the needs of older adults or comparable fields.
  3. Experience developing, monitoring, and managing fiscal budgets, including meeting expenditure and revenue targets.
  4. Experience connecting with underrepresented communities, ensuring the development and delivery of culturally responsive programs and services.
