Position Title: 

Assistant or Associate Professor of Digital Dairy Management and Data Analytics

 

Position Summary:
The Department of Animal Science seeks candidates for a tenure-track position aimed at developing an internationally recognized program in computational biology or systems biology related to dairy cattle management. The successful candidate will capitalize on current and emerging data-driven technologies, artificial intelligence, and high throughput genotyping and phenotyping tools to advance our understanding of dairy cattle biology, genetics, and/or dairy herd management for improving animal productivity, well-being, and sustainability. The position effort is research (50%) and teaching (50%) on a 9-month academic year basis. Teaching opportunities include an introductory level course in data management and analytics for students in agriculture and an upper-level undergraduate and graduate course in data analytics for dairy management, applied dairy genetics or quantitative decision making. Course curricula will be aligned with the candidate’s subject matter expertise and/or curricular needs. Upon approval by the provost and the board of trustees, the incumbent will be appointed to the prestigious Robert and Anne Everett Professorship for an initial term of three years at the assistant professor rank or five years at the associate professor rank, with the possibility of renewal.

The new faculty member will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary community on the main campus in Ithaca, New York. Opportunities exist for the candidate to interact with interdisciplinary centers and programs such as the Cornell Institute for Digital Agriculture, the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, the Cornell Dairy Center of Excellence, Cornell Tech, Center for Vertebrate Genomics and the Center for Comparative and Population Genomics.
 
Qualifications
A Ph.D. is required in animal science, genetics, or an appropriate discipline with demonstrated capability, success, and (or) potential in developing competitive research and teaching programs in computational biology or systems biology and data science in agriculture commensurate with career stage. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Candidates with a strong interest and ability to develop decision making tools while integrating big data, digital technology, and information science in dairy management are highly desirable.
