Position Title:

Post Doctoral Fellow - Department of Environmental Sciences

Position Summary

Postdoctoral Researcher at Emory University, Department of Environmental Sciences

Join Dr. Emily Burchfield’s research group, the FACES Lab, as a Postdoctoral Researcher and join an interdisciplinary and trans-institutional NSF-funded project that is engaging stakeholders in three U.S. states to identify, model, and understand the emergent crops, technologies, policies, and on-farm realities likely to alter agricultural futures in each region.

responsibilities:

The successful candidate will contribute to research in the following areas:

  • Historical analyses of agricultural land use change in the U.S.
  • Predictive modeling of future agricultural land use change in the U.S. under various stakeholder-informed scenarios.
  • Co-creation of scenarios with stakeholders to refine predictive models and articulate model limitations.
  • Advancement of socio-environmental modeling through iterative stakeholder engagement to better represent the human dimensions of future agricultural land use change.
  • Identification of transition pathways—at multiple scales—towards agricultural futures desired by diverse stakeholders.
qualifications:
  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the start date. Interdisciplinary backgrounds are encouraged, but candidates should have significant research experience at the intersections of agricultural systems and data science.
  • Experience working with large geospatial datasets, particularly those that integrate social and environmental data.
  • Demonstrated programming and statistical skills.
  • Familiarity with agricultural systems in the U.S. Experience actively engaging with agricultural stakeholders is a plus.

  • Ability to conduct high-impact independent and collaborative research.
  • Excellent English language writing and communication
