Position description:

The Digital Marketing Manager will assist Friends of Acadia in implementing a digital-forward approach to broadening awareness of its mission and impact for Acadia National Park, while diversifying its donor base. This role will help drive engagement with current supporters/stakeholders and attract new, younger supporters who are increasingly active in the digital space. The Digital Marketing Manager collaborates to create and implement digital content and strategic communications plans, and manages Friends of Acadia’s social media channels, email marketing, and advertising.

A successful Digital Marketing Manager works in collaboration with the Communications Team and other Friends of Acadia (FOA) staff to plan and create compelling digital content in alignment with strategic priorities and communications plans. This includes planning and creating digital marketing campaigns across various channels, such as social media advertising, email marketing, content marketing, search engine marketing (SEM), and display advertising.

The Digital Marketing Manager must have a marketing mindset, underpinned by a strong focus on data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will be adept at using data analytics to inform marketing strategies, ensuring that Friends of Acadia’s digital presence is both impactful and aligned with its mission. A commitment to continuous testing, learning, and adjusting strategies based on data insights is essential for adapting to the evolving digital landscape and effectively engaging with Friends of Acadia’s diverse audience segments.

 
Responsibilities:

Social Media Management/Marketing (40-50%):

  • Develop and manage a robust social media editorial calendar in collaboration with the Comms Team.
  • Enhance and grow Friends of Acadia’s social media presence and drive traffic to the website through
    the development of educational, creative, and compelling content and user engagement.
  • Plan and direct the work of a seasonal digital content creator; and coordinate and collaborate with
    Comms Team members and Acadia National Park communications staff as needed to achieve social
    media goals and key performance measures.
  • Create and implement innovative ideas for social posts and campaigns based on what is trending,
    while maintaining professionalism and consistency with Friends of Acadia’s brand.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to comments, mentions, shares, and messages on social media,
    fostering positive interactions on behalf of Friends of Acadia.
  • Engage with partners, conservation groups, national parks, and other like-minded community sites as appropriate. Work closely with community influencers and ambassadors to broaden the reach and impact of FOA’s digital presence.
  • Plan, create, and execute digital marketing campaigns across various channels, such as search engine marketing (SEM), social media advertising, email marketing, content marketing, and display advertising to achieve communications and marketing goals and KPIs.
  • Track, analyze, and report marketing campaign performance, website analytics, and social media
    metrics to measure effectiveness; adapt to achieve strategic communications plan goals.

Email Marketing & Management (15-20%):

  • Plan, write, design, and execute Friends of Acadia’s monthly E-News and other targeted email
    campaigns to support communications, fundraising, and outreach goals.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on email campaigns and monthly E-News performance using analytics.
  • Partner with the Comms and Development Teams to identify key target audience segments for
    targeted email marketing campaigns; and create and execute these campaigns.
  • Design and implement email campaigns to appeal to the 25-45-year-old demographic. Use data-
    driven insights to segment the email list and tailor content to this age group.
  • Lead development of a comprehensive email marketing strategy that aligns with communications and
    marketing goals, and involves segmentation, tailoring content to different groups, and integrating
    email campaigns with other digital marketing initiatives to create a cohesive and unified message.

Membership & Fundraising Campaigns (10%):

  • Serve as the communications lead to plan, design, and develop membership, annual fund, and other
    fundraising campaigns.
  • Develop communications plans to support fundraising campaigns.
  • Write, edit, and assist in the development of messaging and marketing materials to support
    membership and fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Work with team members to track analytics, create reports, and evaluate campaign success.

Event Marketing (10%):

  • Assist in the marketing of Friends of Acadia’s signature events, including the Annual Meeting, Annual Benefit, Earth Day Roadside Clean up, Take Pride in Acadia Day, and Pints for a Purpose.
  • Develop and implement communications and marketing plans to promote events to key audiences to
    achieve engagement and fundraising goals.
  • Create various marketing materials to support/promote events such as flyers, digital slideshows, etc.
  • Participate in event marketing evaluation by helping to develop and document key takeaways and
    lessons learned.

Admin, Projects & Misc Responsibilities (10-15%):

  • Work collaboratively with the Content & Website Manager to create and maintain a robust digital
    content strategy and calendar to help achieve communications and marketing goals.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging marketing techniques, and best practices in the non-
    profit sector to ensure innovative and effective marketing strategies.
  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies through digital marketing.
  • Work with the Content & Website Manager to create landing pages and optimize user experience.
  • Assist in the creation, evolution, and implementation of a strategic communications and engagement
    plan for Friends of Acadia.
  • Assist the VP of Communications & Marketing in creating and monitoring department budget; provide
    reports related to marketing outreach and communication efforts.
  • Initiate ideas and write articles for Acadia magazine, the Friends of Acadia Journal, and support the creation of other Friends of Acadia communications and marketing materials as needed/requested.
  • Provide back-up and support to Comms Team colleagues and tactics as needed.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
 
minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field; plus at least five years of
    successful work experience in content creation and digital marketing.
  • Firm grasp on various marketing platforms, channels, and best practices, including social media, email marketing, Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and display advertising.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading and managing social media, email marketing, SEO/SEM, and
    display advertising. Leading candidates will be asked to submit a digital portfolio of work.
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that
    inform, educate, and motivate.
  • Experience in optimizing landing pages and user funnels.
  • Demonstrated experience running campaigns on social platforms, primarily Meta (FB/Instagram).
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented, highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Marketing strategy experience and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent creative writing and editing skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Resourceful self-starter and a problem-solver.
  • The position will require some evening and weekend hours to support fundraising and/or program
    activities.
  • Must possess strong working knowledge and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.

preffered Qualifications:
  • Prefer experience with Google Analytics, Google Ad Words, Google Ad Grants, and developing and
    running PPC advertising campaigns on major search engines.
  • Basic graphic design, including knowledge of Canva, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or another design
    program.
  • Experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, and/or fundraising.
