Consumer Horticulture Educator

 

 

Position Summary:

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute (AABI), this position provides leadership and expertise in alignment with the needs of home and community gardeners and will lead the Extension Master Gardener Programs in Livingston, Washtenaw, and surrounding counties. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate across work teams, Institutes, and community groups, working with faculty and educators for advancement of clientele needs.

In this position, you will identify, design, implement, and evaluate educational programs that meet outreach needs related to best practices for landscape and garden management contributing to short and longterm goals of producing healthy foods and landscapes while protecting the environment. Through your leadership, you will develop and deliver science-based information for home and community gardeners and support volunteers. You will work with lawn and garden hotline volunteers to address home gardening questions from across the state and will serve
as an informational resource for lawn and garden questions.

Through collaboration in research, engagement with the community, and dissemination of research through various methods, including in-person and multimedia programming and written communications, you will implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that lead to the production of healthy foods and landscapes while protecting the environment. You will develop, produce, and deliver Consumer Horticulture outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with AABI messaging.

You will have the ability to network statewide with the existing core of Consumer Horticulture Educators and faculty to provide education and service to home and community gardeners. Your work will include collaboration with colleagues at MSU, as well as a diverse network of partner groups.

Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Livingston County MSUE office.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in horticulture or related field
