Assistant Director of Undergraduate Programs

 

 

Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Programs (ADUP) provides critical leadership and coordination of numerous aspects of the Department of Forestry and Environmental resources (DFER) undergraduate programs, from recruiting to graduation. DFER offers five undergraduate degrees: Environmental Sciences, Environmental Technology and Management, Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology, Forest Management, and Natural Resources. More than 700 undergraduate students enroll in these programs.

Essential Job Duties Include:

1. Serve as a liaison between DFER program coordinators/ advisors and both college and university units (25%), serving as a communication channel and coordinating FER participation in:
    • Graduation
    • Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming
    • Orientation
    • Recruiting
    • Admissions
 
2. Lead and manage transfer student programs (30%), including:
  • Maintain and, as appropriate, expand articulation agreements
  • Develop and lead the Earnhardt Legacy Program
  • Communicate with potential transfer students and their advisors in other departments and institutions, including the change of degree application (CODA), connect, and spring start students
  • Develop and coordinate orientation programs specific to transfer students into DFER curricula
  • Serve as an intake coordinator (initial point of contact) for transfer students
 
3. Organize and assist with student services (25%), including:
  • Scholarships (including tracking scholarships in PackAssist and WolfReports)
  • Study abroad and enhancement awards to undergraduate students
  • Coordinate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and community-building activities across the curricula
  • Department liaison to student organizations (holding annual meetings with student officers of each organization)
 
4. Plan and implement department-specific recruiting activities (20%), including:
  • Initiatives to increase diversity of the applicant pool
  • Externally-facing activities at DFER-specific, off-campus events and venues
  • Engagement with admitted students (to manage yield)
  • Developing and maintaining recruiting content of department website
  • Selecting and supervising student recruiting assistants

Other Responsibilities
This position is part of an academic services team, with all members cross-trained so that they can back-up other team members. Thus, the ADUP is expected to be flexible and a team-player.

The position reports directly to the Department Head, but must work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Programs, academic program coordinators, and college and student services personnel. This includes assisting with on-boarding and supporting new program coordinators as they are appointed.
