Assistant Director of Faculty and Staff Development

Position Summary

The Office of Multicultural Programs (OMP), in the College of Agriculture, at Purdue University is seeking a dynamic, self-starter interested in joining our organization as an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director will assist the Director of OMP and others in the development and execution of a comprehensive approach to programs and services designed to build a culturally intelligent and inclusive community within the college.


This individual must have strong practical experience in project management, which was gained through managing projects. The Assistant Director is expected to conceive, organize, and serve as a team lead. Delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work products. In this role, you will have functional supervision responsibility for employees while serving as a “working committee chair" to promote and implement effective programmatic initiatives to broaden our efforts to include a narrative focused on achieving academic and institutional excellence that positions our faculty, staff and students to be more competitive in today’s global marketplace.

what you'll be doing:
  • Organizing and leading existing programs and activities in accordance with the tripart mission and goals of the College of Agriculture
  • Developing, implementing and leading new programs to support the strategic direction of the college and university’s goal to achieve “Excellence at Scale”
  • Ensuring goals are met through strategic assessment of program impact for administrators, faculty, staff and students
  • Ensure that all programs deliver the desirable outcomes to our organization
  • In order to achieve a more robust and integrated approach that builds on “Inclusive Excellence” models and operates in a strategic, evidence-based and data-driven manner, where accountability is paramount
  • Coordinate, develop and lead programing with the Diversity Action Team in Agriculture
  • Assist with grant writing and generate appropriate reports (budgets, expenditures) for specific program areas
  • Facilitates the administration of the IDI (Intercultural Development Inventory) for faculty and staff
  • Collaborate with the Agriculture Research and Graduate Education (ARGE) Office to provide assistance on program assessment, grant writing
  • Collaborate with the Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentoring, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) and the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) to provide college wide professional development and assessments for Faculty and Staff in the area of intercultural competence and learning
  • Collaborate with the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (ODIB) and Cultural Centers to provide programming for CoA Faculty and Staff
  • Publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals; and presenting papers/posters at academic conferences. Examples of possible conferences include: WISE, HICE, NACTA, NCORE, NAME, and AERA
  • Serve in place of the Director as needed for meetings, travel and representation of the department

required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • 4 years of relevant experience in multicultural, inclusion and belonging strategic initiatives, or similar program management or administrative experience in a higher education setting
  • In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (Bachelors + 6 years of experience; Associates + 8 years of experience)
  • Proven record of creating and delivering innovative programming
  • Advanced intercultural competency and comfort level interacting with diverse groups of individuals, both internal and external to the University
  • Vast working knowledge of current and historical theories, practices, and trends related to Inclusive Excellence in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects and priorities with a high degree of professionalism, attention to detail, and follow through as well as flexibility and collegiality
  • Recognized specialist in promoting excellence to scale  
  • Ability and desire to thrive while working independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with faculty, staff and graduate students from diverse backgrounds
  • Skills in researching, writing, and competing for external grants/funding for the office

preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with student organizations focused on student-led approaches to intercultural competencies, or closely related topics in a collegiate setting
  • Certified IDI Administrator
