Assistant Professor (Animal Science)

 

Position Summary:
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Animal Science. This position is a nine-month appointment, 75% teaching, 25% research. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded, multidisciplinary research program in livestock nutrition, physiology, behavior, and/or health and well-being. Will be expected to develop and maintain close-working relationships with food-animal industry stakeholders, mentor graduate students, and teach undergraduate courses in swine management and poultry management, ¬¬¬along with additional undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of expertise in the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology (ASVT). A competitive negotiable salary and benefit package will be offered commensurate with the candidate’s level of expertise. Availability for employment by spring 2023 semester is expected.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Dairy Science, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Evidence of successful teaching, basic and/or applied research experience in livestock nutrition, physiology, behavior, animal well-being, production management, animal health, or related research areas are preferred. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, evidence of scholarly achievement in teaching and research, a commitment to high standards of academic professionalism, and a positive outlook.
 
The ASVT at TAMUK is an integral part of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition to awarding a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science (emphases in General Animal Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and Animal-Wildlife Veterinary Technology), and a Master of Science degree in Animal Science, ASVT is home to the only four-year accredited Veterinary Technology program in Texas and the renowned King Ranch® Institute for Ranch Management. The Department of ASVT is the largest academic department on the picturesque campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, with 13 faculty, 14 graduate and approximately 470 undergraduate students.
