The Nature Conservancy: NC Freshwater Applied Scientist
position description:

The Applied Freshwater Scientist will conduct scientific research and analyses to enhance conservation outcomes for all aspects of the North Carolina freshwater portfolio, including watershed health, environmental flow (e-flows), water quality, and aquatic species needs. They will serve as the science lead for freshwater resilience and risk reduction, which entails spatial analyses of landscape and hydrologic dynamics, habitat quality and watershed health, and identifying opportunities to scale implementation of nature-based solutions. The Applied Freshwater Scientist will also incorporate climate change analyses and adaptive conservation and management tools into TNC freshwater strategies. They relate findings to critical places and inform management options to protect and restore in-stream, floodplain, and wetland habitats. They contribute to proposals for public and private grants and communicate with external audiences about TNC’s freshwater science work to build awareness and support. They contribute to the incorporation of diversity, equity, and inclusion in TNC’s freshwater work. They use the comprehensive science to provide leadership to broader resilience efforts with other conservation partners as well as through state and federal efforts.
