Assistant Professor of Forest Economics and Natural Resource Policy

Position Overview: 

The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment seeks a dynamic, engaged scholar for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Forest Economics and Natural Resource Policy position. The successful candidate will bring expertise in forest economics and natural resource policy, including forest management, modeling land use changes, natural and resource valuation. The ideal candidate will have experience in related areas, such as sustainable forestry, valuation of forest fire or water quality impacts, and natural resource policy. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence and of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusivity goals of the institution, and have a strong record of mentoring at undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Duties of the position include teaching in support of the Forestry and Environmental Conservation and Sustainability programs; advising undergraduate students; engaging in Departmental and program governance; conducting research within the scholar’s areas of expertise; and engaging in other outreach or scholarly activities as appropriate.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Advise undergraduate students in key department concentrations on issues including curriculum requirements, course selection, registration, and post-graduation plans. Assist students with internships, job shadowing experiences, and other relevant experiential learning opportunities. Participate in undergraduate recruitment activities as part of the Undergraduate Advising team.
  • Advise non-thesis graduate students with regard to admissions requirements, curriculum requirements, course selection, registration, and post-graduation plans. Assist non-thesis master’s students with internships, job shadowing experiences, and other relevant experiential learning opportunities. Serve as primary point of contact for non-thesis graduate students with questions regarding university policy.
  • In cooperation with departmental leadership, lead, manage, and direct recruitment activities for the department’s non-thesis master’s program. Support departmental leadership with cultivating partnerships with companies, government agencies, not-for-profits, and other organizations to create internship and employment opportunities for graduating non-thesis master’s students.
  • Welcome and advise new students during summer registration program, including transfer students, and assist with course selection and curriculum planning.
  • Teach up to two one-credit hour courses in career exploration and professional development.
required education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, business, communications, education, or related field.
  • At least two years of work experience in agribusiness, international business, academic advising, teaching or similar fields.  Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work successfully with diverse groups in a team-oriented environment. Expertise with Microsoft Office.
preferred education and experience:
  • Master's degree in agricultural economics, business, communications, higher education, or a related field
  • Experience with recruitment, sales, or similar activities. Experience with data reporting/management. Experience working in a university environment.  Experience with Adobe products, including Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop. Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience. Understanding of the higher education marketplace.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT DETAILS:

This is a full-time 100%, 12-month Academic Professional appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The salary range for this position starts at $50,000. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
