Position Title:
CALS Student Success Navigator – Academic Advising Associate I 
 
Position Summary
The CALS Student Success Navigator will be a dynamic and inspirational supporter, connector, advocate, advisor and more to prospective and admitted CALS students. Our colleague in this role will bring a solid foundation in DE&I to support the integration of a cross unit recruiting and supporting success model that allows for support of all prospective and admitted CALS students while placing a deliberate focus student success pathways and finding community. The individual in this role will assist with the partnering, developing and implementation of programming that will engage students in new and innovative approaches to belonging, from the moment they are identified as prospects, through graduation, and as a member of our passionate community of alumni. As a CALS Student Success Navigator within the Office of Academic Programs, the successful candidate will work with a team of skilled and passionate admissions officers and advisors to promote and enhance dedication to student development, support, and advocacy with belonging and inclusion at the core. Our team supports over 3,590 undergraduate students across 16 academic departments (https://cals.cornell.edu/about), with 22 majors and more than 40 minors across the agricultural, environmental, and social sciences, Cornell CALS offers an unrivaled academic experience. On average, 46% of undergraduates engage in a research experience, 80% complete one or more internships and 33% complete an international experience, all supported by this team.
 
This position is located on the Ithaca campus, utilizing a hybrid work schedule of 2 days remote and 3 days on campus, but is subject to change as determined by time of year and OAP/College Leadership.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University is engaged in pioneering pursuit of inclusive, purpose-driven science. The Office of Student Services aims to assist undergraduate students in their academic and personal success by building an inclusive community of student support made up of faculty, staff, peers, alumni, and extensive resources from across the college and university.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with colleagues across CALS Office of Academic Programs, the college, and the University to help advise students.
  • Provide support of college application processes including financial aid, housing, resources and additional undergraduate student needs.
  • Support annual college events for first year and transfer students.
  • Supervise, mentor, and serve as a key member of a team of passionate student services advisors.
  • Support data-driven processes to identify and assist students of concern and in distress using resources and networks while implementing recommendations from the Cornell Mental Health Review process.
  • Represent and advocate on behalf of CALS students and their needs by collaborating with CALS leadership and others across the university by engaging with key stakeholders and collaborating and fostering relationships with other offices and support units on campus.
  • Collaborate with CALS Director of Admissions to support an Enrollment and Success Navigator program aiming to scaffold students and their families during the admissions process and through a successful transition to Cornell.
  • This new effort will be designed to support specialized needs for matriculation, on-boarding and first semester transition to Cornell for first-years and transfer students.
  • Support systems and programming using technology and innovation that support community building and well-being for CALS students.
 
What We Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the social sciences or education. Prior experience counseling/advising undergraduates with minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in higher education or equivalent is required
  • Familiarity working with diverse groups, including historically excluded communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at various level environment including but not limited to: students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with key University administrators in complex campus structure
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member across teams
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple projects, manage events and special assignments
  • Analytical skill is required in evaluating applications to the College
  • Ability to travel to and foster first year and transfer pipeline programs and conferences
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and data management
  • Ability to work in-person and work flexible hours
  • Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS drivers license and be cleared to drive for university business.

Salary
Pay Range: $54,055.00 - $58,991.00
