EPA Seeks Researchers of Physical Habitat Structure in Aquatic Ecosystems
Position Title:
EPA position researching Physical Habitat Structure in Aquatic Ecosystems.

Position Summary:
Permanent, full-time EPA position researching Physical Habitat Structure in Aquatic Ecosystems.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will soon be seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, permanent position to lead national aquatic ecosystem research focused on physical habitat structure and hydrology as critical components of aquatic resource monitoring and assessment.

The position will be located in EPA’s Pacific Ecological Systems Division (PESD) research laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon working within a team setting to plan, analyze, interpret, communicate, and publish results based on data from the National Aquatic Research Surveys (NARS, https://www.epa.gov/national-aquatic-resource-surveys). Under the NARS Program, physical, chemical, and biological data from lakes, rivers and streams, coastal areas, and wetlands are collected across the conterminous United States in a five-year cycle.

Emphasis is on assessing the existing conditions, trends, and alteration of ecologically relevant aquatic ecosystem hydrology and morphology of freshwater systems: connecting natural geoclimatic controls, human activities, physical habitat structure, and biological integrity.

Applicants should have knowledge and training in fluvial geomorphology, limnology, hydrology, and the ecology of lakes and flowing waters. They should also have experience in large regional scale evaluations of natural and anthropogenic influences on physical habitat structure in freshwaters, and the ecological effects of habitat alteration. Applicants should be able to conduct statistical analysis of large (spatial and temporal) datasets using R, adeptly communicate science, lead collaborative research in a team setting, and produce manuscripts for publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
