Overview

FMC Corporation’s Global Regulatory Sciences group is part of the R&D organization. The Global Regulatory Sciences group is seeking a Global Regulatory Modelling Scientist who is focused on developing research for new and existing molecules to help farmers maintain a safe and secure food supply while protecting the environment for future generations. The position is office-based located in Newark, Delaware, at our Global R&D Center just one hour south of our corporate headquarters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The responsibilities include regulatory work that supports our global business, with opportunities to interface with people around the world. The Global Regulatory Sciences group offers a unique balance of individual responsibilities and a team-focused project approach, providing our scientists with opportunities to engage in proprietary molecule development, learn regulations around the world, and invest in their understanding of emerging science.

 

Responsibilities

An Environmental Modelling Scientist in Global Regulatory Sciences is the modelling subject matter lead on cross-functional teams. The team relies upon this role to plan, oversee and perform environmental modelling projects both internally and using contract research organizations, interpret the modelling outputs generated, and communicate those findings to appropriate parties. This role develops an understanding of the environmental risk profile of molecules through risk assessment, risk refinement, data analysis, and scientific interpretation of regulatory science data and modelling outputs. An Environmental Modelling Scientist has the responsibility of using the environmental modelling package to support our registrations globally, by generating dossiers and position papers, and through communications with regulatory authorities.

 

Education
  • PhD in Environmental Science or relevant field of study, or equivalent with 5-8 yrs experience or
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science or relevant field of study with 8-12 yrs experience, or
  • Bachelor’s degree Environmental Science or relevant field of study with 12+ yrs

 

Qualifications
  • Experience in performing environmental modelling in an industrial or regulatory setting using suitable models (e.g. PEARL PELMO, MACRO, PRZM, KinGUI, and CAKE) 
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of global pesticide registration guidelines and data requirements
  • Prior industrial or regulatory experience and a broad understanding of the global agricultural chemical market
  • Thorough understanding of chemical and physical properties of molecules and the relationship of these properties to biological activity and behavior in the environment
  • Understanding of various routes of metabolism and degradation in the environment (e.g. soils and plants)
