Position Summary 
The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa seeks applicants for 12-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank with responsibilities in dairy extension and outreach, research, and teaching. The responsibilities are proposed as 60% extension and outreach, 25% applied research, and 15% teaching.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a robust extension education program serving the needs of the Iowa dairy industry, and work collaboratively with the ISU Extension and Outreach Dairy Team. Research responsibilities will include the development of an applied research program that is relevant to the dairy industry, securing funding to support the research, and mentoring graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will be to contribute to the dairy science undergraduate curriculum.
Areas of expertise should be one the following: dairy nutrition and management, nutritional and lactational physiology, or dairy systems to address the dairy industry on a holistic basis. Additional responsibilities will include working in cross-disciplinary teams with faculty in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine, to provide professional development and serve as a resource for regional dairy extension program specialists.
This position requires collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, the ISU Extension and Outreach dairy team, the dairy industry and other external constituents. Ample opportunities exist to collaborate with faculty in related disciplines and through participation in graduate programs including physiology, genetics, food science, and meat science. Key to success will be cultivating relationships with stakeholders that are mutually beneficial for the department, college, and university. Exceptional oral and written communications are essential, as well as a demonstrated ability to broadly communicate science with diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications:
A PhD, by start date, in animal or dairy science (or related discipline) with experience in dairy production systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with educational and/or extension programing related to dairy nutrition or production management
Experience in applied research such as dairy nutrition and management, nutritional and lactational physiology, or dairy systems
Experience as an instructor and mentor of students
Experience in the allied-dairy industry
Proposed start date: 7/1/2022, or as negotiated
