Position Summary:

The Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences is currently seeking a Beef Herder to assist in the research management and production operations of the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) H.H. Leveck Animal Research Center.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: the supervision of feeding and caring for animals. Maintaining herd records and supervise the collection of information to prepare herd inventory status. Supervise the administration of minor treatments and procedures to animals. Supervise operation and maintenance of laboratory and farm related equipment. Responsible for maintenance of supplies and equipment used to facilitate research projects. Responsible for prioritizing work and supervision of technicians and student labor. Assist faculty with research and graduate students with their research projects and participate in animal laboratories as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned.

Shifts will vary. The successful candidate will be expected to work weekends and holidays as needed, and the job requires flexible scheduling.

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Qualifications:

Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science and experience managing animal production systems preferred. Good physical condition, the ability to lift heavy objects, and a valid driver’s license are required. The ability to operate various farm equipment.

Preference will be given to candidates that are willing to pursue an M.S. degree, have experience working with research animals and/ or have previous supervisory experience.
