Position Title: 
Equine Extension Educator

 

 

Position Summary:

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Children and Youth Institute
(CYI), this position provides leadership and expertise in equine
education and the 4-H equine program. This position will have
statewide responsibilities and will collaborate with work teams,
institutes, and community groups, working alongside faculty from the
Department of Animal Science, specialists, and educators for
advancement clientele needs.


In this position, you will identify, design, implement and evaluate
programs that meet outreach needs related to youth equine education.
Through your leadership, you will develop programs and materials for
4-H youth participants, adult volunteers, and MSUE staff in horse
management, nutrition, training, equitation, judging, and showmanship.
You will coordinate the Michigan 4-H Horse Program, including state
level horse related youth activities, and work closely with a diverse
group of horse industry organizations, as well as assisting county staff
to develop programs on a state-wide basis and in local communities.


Through collaboration in research, engagement with the community,
and dissemination of research through various methods, including inperson and multimedia programming and written communications, you
will implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and
behaviors that contribute to educating youth and volunteers in equine
education. You will use outreach materials with messaging and content
that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with CYI messaging.
Your work will include close collaboration with colleagues at MSU, and
a diverse network of partner groups related to the equine industry.


This position has office space in Anthony Hall, located on MSU’s
campus in East Lansing, Michigan.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, animal science, or
related field must be earned by date of hire, with an expectation to
complete a master’s degree within a specified time frame; or master’s
degree in youth development, education, animal science or related
field.
