Michigan State University Seeks Health and Farm Stress Educator

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Health and Nutrition Institute
(HNI), this position provides expertise in health and farm stress. This
position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate across work teams and community groups, working with faculty, specialists, and educators for overall responsiveness to clientele and stakeholder needs. MSUE has grants focused on farm stress outreach which includes making presentations, providing resources and referrals at public events, creating multi-media content for distribution, and responding to community groups and individual inquiries for information on health and farm stress.

In this position, you will identify, design, implement, and evaluate programs that meet outreach needs related to stress management. You will provide audiences and stakeholders with knowledge on mental health, suicide prevention, non-pharmacological alternatives to pain management, and healthy relationships, as a way to promote resources and to lessen stigma of help-seeking and health self-management. You will have the ability to network statewide with existing farm stress and farm resource management educators to provide education and services or referrals to the Michigan farming community. You will teach Farm Stress Programs and promote health education that reduces symptoms associated with health conditions that can interfere with farm work (e.g., arthritis, chronic pain).

Through collaboration in research, engagement with the community, and dissemination of research through various methods, including in-person and multimedia programming and written communications, you will implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that reduce distress. You will also develop, produce, and deliver outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with HNI messaging.

Your work will include collaboration with MSU colleagues, as well as a
diverse network of partner groups that include the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, Easterseals Michigan and Michigan AgrAbility

 

 

Master’s degree in human development, family studies, social work,
psychology, sociology, gerontology, public health, community health
services, or related field.
