Position Title:
Assistant Professor, Foods for Health – Foodomics
 
 
Position Summary
 
Tenure-track Assistant Professor (9-month) position with a research (70%) and teaching (30%) appointment in Food Science leveraging foodomics strategies to investigate foods for health. The successful candidate will join a 23-member faculty in the Department of Food Science housed in the Philip E. Nelson Hall of Food Science building on the main campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. This position will help establish a critical program for the College of Agriculture to improve sustainable food systems and human health. The successful candidate isto develop a strong, interdisciplinary, externally funded research program using foodomics to address fundamental and applied foods-for-health questions. The goal is to use fundamental science to develop practical approaches and strategies to improve food systems and reduce chronic diseases.
 
Expected Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized research program focusing on omics applications of food to develop a healthy diet. Specifically, this position would bring opportunities to (1) define the metabolic signatures of cultural and traditional foods to inform disease risk and/or (2) understand the metabolic mechanisms mediating the health impacts of foods. The successful candidate will establish a nationally recognized, externally funded (e.g., federal agencies and private sector) research program, advise graduate and undergraduate research students, and develop a reputable graduate and undergraduate teaching program. Potential exists for teaching distance courses. They are expected to actively contribute to departmental, college, and university initiatives and engage in national and international professional activities. The Department is an integral part of the College of Agriculture, one of the world’s leading colleges of agricultural, food, life, and natural resource sciences, ranked eighth globally in the 2022 QS World University Rankings. Qualifications 

Ph.D. in Food Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Biology, Plant Sciences, or related fields. Candidiates will be considered with backgrounds in -omics (e.g., metabolomics, proteomics, genomics, transcriptomics) in sustainable food systems. Candidates should have demonstrated success in teaching, experience in grant writing, and have demonstrated Post-doctoral experience or industry experience.

Salary

Assistant Professor (9-month; tenure-track). Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
