Texas A&M University seeks Instructional Assistant Professor
Rangeland, Wildlife & Fisheries Management
The successful candidate will:
• Teach undergraduate and occasional graduate courses in areas that may include Introductory courses to Wildlife Management, Wildlife Habitat Management, Techniques of Wildlife Management, or advanced coursework, such as large mammal management and upland bird management.
• Serve as a graduate faculty member.
• Participate in university, college, and department activities and service including participation in the department’s summer field course.
• Engage external stakeholders in identifying and maintaining course content that is relevant and supportive of departmental curriculum.
• Organize and supervise student-developed competitive submissions for local, regional, and national awards and recognition.
• Mentor undergraduates and engage with undergraduate student organizations.
• Demonstrate commitment to campus inclusivity and diversity.
About the Department
The newly established Department of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management (RWFM) resulted from the reorganization of several departments within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. RWFM is unique among most academic departments in that we are focused on informing science-driven natural resource management through teaching and research that engage the end user with their needs in mind. The Department is currently comprised of 14 faculty members (including two endowed chairs) on the flagship campus in College Station and 10 additional faculty members located at Research and Extension Centers across the state. Departmental faculty also have appointments within Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Water Resources Institute, and Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute. Our faculty maintain diverse state, national, and international research collaborations. Student enrollment is approximately 530 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate wildlife discipline with demonstrated capability in teaching programs and working with stakeholder groups. Applicants must document or otherwise demonstrate their:
• ability to be creative, innovative, organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful;
• Inclusive knowledge of wildlife management principles in application;
• Ability to maintain a robust educational program that meets student needs;
• Demonstrated ability to provide transformative learning to students; and
• Knowledge of curriculum development, assessment, and longitudinal evaluation.
Ideal applicants will document or otherwise demonstrate having strong existing relationships with industry groups.
