Table Grape Advisor
Applied Research and Extension
Serving Tulare and Kings Counties, California
 
 
Position Summary
The Table Grape Advisor will implement an extension education and applied research program to address high priority production issues for table grapes and provide research-based technical and educational assistance to the California table grape industry.
 
 
The CE Advisor will work closely with the California Table Grape Commission Viticulture Research Committee to address critical issues facing table grapes including, but not limited to, vineyard cultural practices and their impact on fruit quality and yield, integrated pest and disease management, irrigation and fertilization management and efficiency, best practices to minimize environmental effects on table grape production, postharvest storage and handling, and automation and mechanization.
 
Counties of Responsibility. This position will be headquartered in Tulare County and shall conduct multi-county extension, education and applied research programs in Tulare and Kings Counties.
 
Qualifications and Skills Required
Required Qualifications: A minimum of a Master’s degree in viticulture, agriculture, plant science, soil science, integrated pest management, or other closely related field is required at the time of appointment.
 
Additional Requirements
• Valid driver license.
• Live within a commutable distance of the position headquarters during period of appointment.
• The CE Advisor must possess or obtain within one year of hire a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate (QAC) prior to applying pesticides or supervising the application of any pesticide.
Desired Experience
• Experience with vineyard or orchard crops
• Passion and desire to pursue a career in Cooperative Extension and community development.
• Experience in successful Cooperative Extension programming or community development,
• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, manage teams and implement a research program, including setting measurable goals and objectives.
 
Salary & Benefits

This position is funded through a partnership between UC ANR and the California Table Grape Commission. The partnership reflects a 25-yr agreement to support this position. The agreement can be extended following completion of year 20.
