University of Missouri seeks Postdoctoral Fellow
Position Title:
Postdoctoral Fellow, Soybean Genetics and Breeding-Seed Composition
 
 
Position Summary
Conduct research to identify genes and develop improved soybean germplasm and cultivars with improved soybean oil, protein and carbohydrate attributes desired by various industries for food, feed, and industrial applications. 
 
Location: University of Missouri Fisher Delta Research, Extension, and Education Center (FDREEC) in Portageville, Missouri.
 
Expected Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include evaluation, identification, and characterization of lines with desirable soybean attributes related to improved seed oil, protein. and carbohydrates. The candidate will develop and evaluate breeding populations for determination and incorporation of genes for improved seed composition. Collect, analyze, and interpret data collected in the field, laboratory, or greenhouse to determine genes and genotypes related to desirable seed traits, prepare manuscripts, supervise undergraduate students, help project director in report preparation, writing grant proposals, and coordinate and collaborate research activities among others engaged in this area within and outside of the University.
 

Qualifications 

Ph.D. degree in plant genetics and breeding or a related field by the time of appointment.
 
Candidates will be evaluated on: Experience and interest in plant breeding, and genetics. A strong background to manage and interpret a large amount of data generated from studies in field and greenhouse environments. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other research staff working in a large soybean breeding and genetics research group with lab and field research management experience. Excellent communication skills, potential for collaborative research, ability to work independently and cooperatively, advising students on the research team, and writing skills for grant proposals and journal articles.
 
Salary

Annual salary range is $50K to $56K annually. This position is eligible for university benefits.
