University of Arkansas Seeks Academic Advisor

Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Agriculture, Human Environmental Science, Education or related field
· At least two years’ experience in a higher education setting advising, counseling, or academic coaching
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
· Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, demonstrate attention to detail, meet deadlines, and think creatively
· Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other software programs Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree in counseling, education, or related area from an accredited institution
· Competence and experience with UAConnect, PowerPoint, Peoplesoft, Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, and Starfish (UASuccess)
· Teaching experience in higher education setting
· Demonstrated understanding of student development theory
· Demonstrated passion for working with students, parents, faculty, staff, and college administrators
· Background and experience in agriculture, human environmental sciences, or related field Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite
· Ability to provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone and through electronic communications
· Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, workspace, and work discreetly with confidential records and information
Workday Percentages
Academic Advising 60%:
· Advises and assists new and transfer students as assigned by the Bumpers College Student Services Office
· Utilizes student retention system (UA Success) to schedule appointments, document student meetings, and process student communications
· Maintains accurate and up-to-date student records, both as a physical file to transition to the faculty advisors, as well as electronic documentation
· Collaborates with assigned academic departments to gain a clear understanding of curriculum, as well as, career opportunities related to each discipline
· Helps students in the development of their educational and career goals
· Teaches students how to navigate degree requirements and gain an understanding of university policies and procedures
· Assists students with completion of any advising related documents/petitions
Retention 15%:
· Teaches one or more sections of UNIV 1001 for Bumpers College students
· Assists students in academic difficulty and makes appropriate campus referrals
· Works with Bumpers College personnel to develop and implement retention plans for advisees
· Assists with orientation programs to assure incoming students are fully informed regarding curriculum requirements and college expectations
Administrative Functions 15%:
· Partners with department heads, faculty, and staff for clear and consistent communication
· Works with department administrative assistants in transitioning students to appropriate faculty advisors as appropriate
· Participates in advising team meetings and training events
Other Duties 10%:
· Willingness to serve on college and university committees
· Assists the Dean’s Office as needed
· Assists the Dean’s Office as needed
· Other duties as assigned
