USDA ARS Seeks Research Microbiologist

Salary Range of $94,199 - $145,617

 

This position is located with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Invasive Insect Biocontrol and Behavior Laboratory, Beltsville, MD.

 

In this position, you will conduct research under the project Sustainable Insect Pest Management for Urban Agriculture and Landscapes. The research involves discovering, testing, and studying the biology of, and characterizing new strains or species of insecticidal bacteria, especially environmental isolates of Chromobacterium and Bacillus thuringiensis varieties. Other research aspects will include identifying bacterial modes of toxicity and the genetic components responsible for or involved in that toxicity as well as identifying mechanisms used by target pest insects to defend themselves from pathogenic bacteria.
