Position Summary
The USDA, ARS, Invasive Insect and Behavior Laboratory (IIBBL) in Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, Maryland is recruiting the highly motivated candidate for a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE position with TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT, with possibility of extension. Position is available immediately at GS-11 level, $74,950 per annum, plus benefits. The incumbent will be independently and cooperatively working on research project of semiochemical-based behavior modifying compounds toward development of sustainable insect pest management strategies. The incumbent is expected to collect volatiles from insects and host plants, identify the potential compounds, determine the chemical structures, synthesize the target compounds, carry out laboratory bioassays, conduct semi-field/field tests to evaluate the activities of identified compounds, prepare/present research presentations, and write the manuscript/publish research results.
The position requires a recent Ph.D. with knowledge of entomology, chemical ecology, analytical chemistry, and organic chemistry. A broad familiarity with plant bug biology, ecology, behavior, and skill in the use of statistical analysis software is preferred.
