Washington Dept. of Natural Resources Seeks UCF Technician (2 Positions Open!)
Position Title:
Western UCF Technician, Natural Resource Specialist 3
Eastern UCF Technician, Natural Resource Specialist 3

Position Summary:
Want to join something GREAT and make a difference?
This recruitment is to fill TWO positions – one based in eastern Washington and one based in western Washington. The duty stations are flexible for both positions.
The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity in our Forest Resilience Division’s Community and Landowner Assistance Section, Urban and Community Forestry Program. The DNR Forest Resilience Division is seeking motivated individuals for two positions to provide technical urban forestry assistance to program constituents.

The Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program works to educate Washington State residents and decision-makers about the economic, environmental, psychological, and aesthetic benefits of trees and to assist local governments, community groups, and volunteers in planting and sustaining healthy trees and vegetation wherever people live, work, and play in Washington State. The mission of UCF is to provide leadership to create self-sustaining urban and community forestry programs that preserve, plan, and manage forests and trees for public benefit and quality of life.

As part of this division and program, you will work alongside a talented team of professional planners, scientists, and implementers providing service to local, state, private, and federal partners to increase the resiliency and health of Washington’s forests and landscapes. In this position, you will be part of a team focused on providing services to those managing urban forests throughout Washington. You will serve as the primary point of contact for Urban and Community Forestry Program for inquiries from local partners and constituents. These positions work with the program team under the supervision and guidance of the Statewide Urban Forestry Specialist.

Both Urban Forestry Technicians serve as the senior level professional for the delivery of technical urban forestry assistance to constituents of the Urban and Community Forestry Program within a specified geography of Washington. Our Eastern Urban Forestry Technician works across eastern Washington State, including the Ellensburg, Spokane, Tri-Cities (Richland, Kennewick, Pasco), Wenatchee, and Yakima areas as well as many small communities in between. Our Western Urban Forestry Technician works across western Washington State, including the greater-Seattle area as well as many other cities along the I-5 corridor and those on the Olympic Peninsula.

These positions report to the Statewide Urban Forestry Specialist to support a broader body of work that includes providing urban forestry technical and educational assistance to stakeholders including urban forestry professionals employed by cities, towns, counties, tribes, 501(c)3 non-profit organizations, educational institutions, special taxing districts (e.g. metro parks districts), public and private utility organizations, community leaders, non-governmental organizations, DNR program staff, and others engaged in urban forestry planning and management.
