Position Title

Investigator IV, York, SC
Position Summary
Investigates possible misuse of pesticides and enforces State and Federal laws governing pesticide use in South Carolina. Maintains comprehensive knowledge and broad experience in pesticide use patterns and structural pest control, as well as knowledge of investigative and law enforcement procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
50% - Essential - Inspections and Compliance: Inspects Restricted-Use Pesticide Dealers, marketplaces, Producer Establishments, pest control business offices, farms, nurseries, structures other locations for compliance with State and Federal pesticide regulations. Inspects records and physical facilities of commercial and private pesticide applicators for compliance with State and Federal regulations. Conducts inspections and interviews to determine compliance with the Federal Worker Protection Standard, the Endangered Species Act, the South Carolina Pesticide Control Act, the SC Chemigation Act and other related legislation.
20% - Essential - Investigations: Conducts criminal and civil investigations. Performs interviews and interrogations. Obtains search and arrest warrants. Secures affidavits, reviews records and obtains physical evidence and documentary samples in accordance with agency established protocols. Obtains formulation, use-dilution, and environmental samples. Inspects locations to which pesticides have been applied to determine if treatments were conducted in compliance with the labeling of the products used, State and Federal law, and State Standards.
10% - Essential - Reporting: Writes comprehensive narrative reports detailing the findings of each inspection or investigation using proper grammar, accurate facts, and conclusions drawn from legally supportable evidence developed or obtained during inspection or investigation. Document and report investigation and inspection data.
10% - Essential - Integrated Pest Management and Agro Terrorism Prevention: Assists with other related responsibilities and initiatives such as integrated pest management in schools, safe pesticide use in day care centers, pesticide container recycling, certification and training and licensing exams. Implements Homeland Security agricultural terrorism prevention with respect to pesticides.
10% - Essential - Education and Outreach: Participates in educational and public-outreach activities for the Department, such as home shows, mass-media appearances, classroom presentations and other educational efforts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A High School Diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A Bachelor's Degree may be substituted for the required work experience.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Work Experience - 3+ years in a field with regulatory, criminal justice, or pesticide background

Standard Hrs: 37.5
Expected Salary Range ($ 41,777.00 - $ 43,500.00)
