Michigan State University seeks Christmas Tree Extension Educator


As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute (AABI), this position provides leadership and expertise in Christmas tree production and management. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate across work teams, Institutes, and community groups, working with faculty, specialists, and educators for overall advancement of the needs of the Institute clientele.
In this position, you will identify, design, implement and evaluate programs that meet outreach needs related to Christmas tree production. Through your leadership, you will provide support to growers to improve sustainability of the Christmas tree industry. This may include providing growers and agribusiness professionals with knowledge to profitably produce Christmas trees and complementing products, such as wreaths, garland, etc., while contributing to the viability of farms. You will serve as an informational resource for clientele and your work will include completing on-site consultations, virtual and in-person meetings, conducting demonstrations and participating in field research. Through collaboration in research, engagement with community members, and dissemination of information through various methods, including inperson and multimedia programming and written communications, you will implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that improve the viability of the Christmas tree industry. You will also develop, produce, and deliver outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with AABI messaging. Your work will include close collaboration with colleagues at MSU, as well as the diverse network of partner groups and the Michigan Christmas Tree Association. Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Missaukee County Office located in Lake City, Michigan.

Commensurate with education and experience
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Entomology, Plant Pathology, or other field related to nursery management or Christmas Tree production.
