The UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Crop Resilience to Environmental Stress. The successful candidate will develop a nationally and internationally recognized research and teaching program focused on how crops respond and adapt to stresses such as drought, heat, salinity, pathogens, pollutants, and nutrient deficiencies.
Responsibilities
Research should integrate molecular biology, plant physiology, and modern molecular breeding tools (e.g., CRISPR-Cas editing, gene pyramiding, association mapping, marker-assisted breeding) to improve crop tolerance and productivity under climate variability. The position advances Stockbridge’s mission to support regional agriculture, sustainable food systems, and environmental stewardship.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in plant biotechnology, crop improvement, or stress physiology, with opportunities for collaboration across UMass Amherst and engagement with regional stakeholders. Faculty have access to state-of-the-art greenhouses, field research farms, and the Agriculture Learning Center, as well as the Institute for Applied Life Sciences.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Crop Sciences, Plant Biology, Biotechnology, Physiology, or related field (by appointment date)
• Demonstrated potential for research excellence in molecular approaches to crop stress responses
• Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential to secure external funding
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Level of Education
Ph.D.
