Position Overview:

FMC Corporation is a global agricultural sciences company dedicated to helping growers produce food, feed, fiber and fuel for an expanding world population while adapting to a changing environment. FMC's innovative crop protection solutions – including biologicals, crop nutrition, digital and precision agriculture – enable growers, crop advisers and turf and pest management professionals to address their toughest challenges economically while protecting the environment. FMC is a globally diverse organization that offers its employees exciting opportunities to work on challenging projects that are important to the achievement of our strategic objectives.  With a corporate culture of innovation, integrity, responsibility and customer intimacy, we foster “The Right Chemistry” in everything we do. FMC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to work with data from trials and experiments conducted in the field, greenhouse, and laboratory.

Do you have experience with pesticide field trials, but would prefer to have an office-based role?

Do you like detective work, by trying to find out what went wrong with a custom software application?

Are you someone that others always go to with computer questions (but you’re not in IT)?

Are you familiar with Power Query, Power BI, ARM, or MicroStrategy?

Do you prefer a job where every day is slightly different?

Do you like helping other people?

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then you might fit right in on our data management team.

Business/Function Overview

We are involved in all phases of data management, from helping design and review experimental plans / protocols, working with biologists who are having issues entering data, publishing data, and then extracting data for analyses.  In addition, we believe in continuous improvement and are always looking for ways to make the data management process easier, faster, more powerful, more efficient, more connected, more user friendly and more agile.

As a team member in data management, you will help in many ways.  You could bridge the gap between those conducting the experiments (not always experts with software applications) and IT Administrators (not often biologists).  If we need to design a new software enhancement, then we need your biology skills to understand what the biologist needs and your tech savvy skills to communicate what features the IT designer needs to build.

Overall, our goal is to ensure that high quality data are generated and captured in a timely manner to enable R&D to make critical decisions.  Your will be part of a team that oversees software applications used to plan, enter, record, retrieve, and analyze data.

Below is a list of some of the selected responsibilities the successful candidate will have:

  • Standardization of Terminology – Work with researchers to determine which parameters are critical to record and how best to standardize nomenclature for these parameters.
  • Standardize Processes – Convert a process where Excel is used as a template / repository for the final data source to a template that can be archived in a database.
  • Training and Troubleshooting – Ability to help others understand how to use custom applications, by providing training material, giving presentations, and individual discussions.
  • Application Owner – Responsible for application(s) working as expected, troubleshooting, maintaining a backlog for additional enhancements, and granting access to users.
  • Project Owner – Oversee planning and execution of small projects, typically a proof of concept for a new, more complicated enhancement, related to one of our applications.

Education (Highly Preferred)

  • B.S. in Agriculture, Biology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science or a related Life-Science

Qualifications

  • Experience conducting or working with data from pesticide field trials.
  • Strong computer skills, especially Excel.  Knowledge of applications (e.g., Power Query, Power BI, ARM, Electronic Laboratory Notebooks, SQL)
  • Ability to manage the activities of others and provide effective coaching and counseling
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills and comfortable leading training face-to-face and over the internet
  • Ability to manage time and priorities in an independent work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and collaborative cooperation
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
