Position Summary
SUNY-ESF seeking a full-time Assistant Program Manager (Education Specialist - NYS title) at our Newcomb Campus, located in the heart of NY's Adirondack Park. The Adirondacks encompass 6 million acres of public and private lands that constitute the largest protected landscape outside of Alaska.
 
The Assistant Program Manager (APM) works out of ESF’s Adirondack Interpretive Center, a public-facing facility supporting education and outreach supporting scholastic, collegiate, professional and general public audiences.
 
The APM assists in day-to-day management of outreach and education programming including daily operation of the Adirondack Interpretive Center (AIC)
outreach coordination and contacts
design, development and delivery of educational programs
communications and web presence
program registration, and executes special assignments as identified by Newcomb Campus leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Interpretation, Environmental Science, Informal Science Education, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, or Natural Resource Management
• Demonstrated work experience using interpretive approaches in informal science education
• Demonstrated natural history knowledge of flora, fauna, and ecology of northern forest ecosystems
• Demonstrated experience with common work-place collaboration, word processing, graphic design and desk-top publishing software
• Demonstrated experience with social media use in marketing and promotion
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and guest service skills
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Demonstrated natural history knowledge of Adirondack flora, fauna, and ecology of northern forest ecosystems
• Demonstrated human history knowledge of Adirondack Park including public policy, regulatory and cultural history issues and impacts on Adirondack human communities
• Previous or current experience with a nature or environmental educational center, with a job focus on program development, and delivery
• Supervisory experience
• High level of organization and reliability
• Ability to work effectively unsupervised
• Ability to work in an isolated environment; both geographic and workplace
• Specific familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Specific familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
